When the matter came up for discussion, the councillors including the chief officer refused to give medical allowances due to financial crunch of the municipality but agreed to give medical re-imbursement facilities to its employees.
Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes informed that the employees are demanding Rs 3000 per month as medical allowances which is too high as the financial condition of the municipality is not very sound. “Nearly Rs 1.5 crore is still not collected in the form of rent, house tax, trade tax which was highlighted by the central auditors in their reports of March 2014,” informed Fernandes.
Fernandes also informed that the council and the public is not very happy with the functioning of the employees. “Employees are trying to avoid and delay the work and that’s why council is facing difficulty to recover the dues on time. We will hold another meeting after some time to take stock of the recovery of arrears made.” Informed Fernandes.
Councillor Rocha Pereira moved a resolution asking the council to take the responsibility of collecting the garbage from the wards.
