Panaji, June 24: The Municipal Child Committee of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), under the leadership of Mayor Rohit Monserrate, organised the ‘Safety First Campaign’ for students of Progress High School at the CCP Town Hall in collaboration with SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) and with support from Equiknox.
The initiative focused on promoting child safety, awareness and empowerment, equipping students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond confidently to real-life situations and challenges.

As part of the programme, students participated in self-defence training sessions, safety awareness workshops and youth empowerment activities aimed at building confidence, leadership qualities and a sense of responsible citizenship.
Dr. Kiran Kerkar, Chief Instructor of JKAI, conducted karate and self-defence training sessions, teaching students essential techniques to protect themselves and react effectively in emergency situations.
Advocate Emidio Desouza also interacted with the students, highlighting the importance of personal safety, awareness, informed decision-making and recognising potentially harmful situations.
The Municipal Child Committee reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for children in Panaji. Organisers emphasized that initiatives such as the ‘Safety First Campaign’ play a vital role in educating young people, strengthening community participation and empowering students to make informed choices.
The programme was well received by students and educators, underscoring the importance of safety education and youth development in schools.
