The long-awaited restoration of Goa’s historic Chapora Fort is set to begin soon, with the letter of acceptance for the project officially cleared, confirmed Minister for Archives and Archaeology Subhash Phaldessai on Thursday.
Speaking to the media, Phaldessai said the restoration contract was approved at a cost 4.98% higher than the original estimate, and a formal work order is expected to be issued within a week. The project aims to preserve and enhance the iconic hilltop fort, a popular tourist destination overlooking the Chapora River.

In addition, the minister revealed that cost assessments and restoration proposals for Betul and Mormugao forts are currently in progress. Once finalised, these forts too will undergo conservation work as part of the state’s broader initiative to protect its rich architectural heritage.
