In a major boost to cancer care services in the state, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has announced that chemotherapy treatment for cancer patients will commence at both the North Goa District Hospital and the South Goa District Hospital from June 11.
The initiative is aimed at decentralizing cancer treatment services and making healthcare more accessible to patients across Goa. Until now, many cancer patients have had to travel to the Goa Medical College (GMC) for chemotherapy sessions, often facing difficulties related to travel, time, and expenses.

Announcing the development, Rane said the introduction of chemotherapy facilities at the district hospital level will significantly ease the burden on patients and their families by bringing essential cancer treatment closer to their homes.
The move is expected to improve access to timely treatment, reduce patient load at GMC, and strengthen oncology services within the state’s public healthcare system.
Health officials believe that providing chemotherapy services at both district hospitals will benefit a large number of cancer patients, particularly those from remote areas who previously had to undertake frequent journeys for treatment.
The commencement of chemotherapy services from June 11 marks an important step in enhancing healthcare infrastructure and expanding specialized medical services across Goa.
