As a regular reader, noticing the progress, letters to editor and action undertaken against road, beach pollution by garbage, like to add that there are two more major forms of pollution happening in Goa.
One is the extreme noise of many modified Royal Enfields and now also scooters produce. It seems the joy of the new generation to make as much noise while driving around as possible. Way over the Delhi norm of 86 dB at one meter distance. Add to that the popularity of boom boom speakers, destroying hearing and irritating your belly, you can understand that many tourist look for more quiet destinations.
Second is light pollution. Next to the blinding lights of many LED equipped cars and bikes comes the last year created blinding city lights. If your third eye is not open, and you cannot see with your normal eyes, you are accident prone. The eye has a time frame after blinding in which it cannot see in the darkness. Full darkness adaptation takes 45 minutes. But the first few seconds after blinding are crucial. Hopefully the responsible authority will adjust all those blinding lights and/or put proper shaders.
It is great that there exists a network for half yearly pollution control of all motorized vehicles. I wish that it would be extended for sound and light control too. Eventually a full yearly security control for car and driver, like in many countries in the world, is desirable to enhance the safety on the Indian roads and great high ways.
