PANJIM: Rotary Club of Panaji, in a bid to promote vocational centres for special kids, have organised a one of a kind tete-a-tete with Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, where people will be able to ask the former chief minister some light-hearted questions. The event is being organized to raise funds for the centres for special kids.
Announcing the project, Rotary Club of Panaji president Shashank Mahatme said a survey pointed to the future of special children after the passing away of their parents.
“We did a survey on areas that would need our service and the future of special children came up. There are many schools housing these children but when their parents pass away, they are helpless,” said Mahatme.
He said the club plans to set up around three vocational centers in Panjim – People’s High School, Sanjay School and Disha School – where students will be taught to operate simple machines so that they can earn money for their livelihood.
Another area the club is looking to help in is the concept of Happy Schools, which is a Rotary International concept where government schools are made lively for students by making classrooms colorful, friendly and equipped with the latest equipments and methods in imparting education.
“Getting the money for these became hard. We have therefore decided to organise a unique event called the Man-O-Logue where we will attempt to look into the ‘maan’ of the Defence minister. This will not be a political event and questions raised will be generalized and limited on the political front. It will be more of a light-hearted conversation with Parrikar,” said Mahatme.
Gaurav Sawant, Sr. Editor, The India Today Group will be the host of the event while Hema Sardesai and standup comedian Sumit Anand will also perform at the event to be held on October 11 at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium.
