MARGAO/PERNEM: The Goa Human Resources Development Corporation and youth from Quepem, Navelim, Sanguem, Curchorem Cuncolim and Canacona organised a cleanliness drive cum awareness programme, on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The entire stretch of eastern bypass road along the powerhouse Maruti Mandir stretch was cleaned and a truck full of garbage was collected. Gaurak Phaldessai, Mithil Desai and Councilor Sugandha Bandekar were present for the drive.
On the occasion, Dr Manoj Prabhudesai said that this is an initiative to inspire people to work in a similar manner to keep their environment clean. “If the same continues, then in no time our beautiful State will be restored to its original beauty,” he said. Security Officer Ichit Phaldessai appealed to the people to not litter around the place for a cleaner and greener environment.
Meanwhile, a group of students and teachers from Vidya Prabhudini High School, Porvorim with the help of locals of Mandrem and panchayat held a cleanliness drive on International Environment Day.
The volunteers began the drive at 8 in the morning and by end of the day, the collected two rickshaws of garbage.
The students were supported by local Tushar Govekar and panch Santosh Barde.
