PANJIM: Muslim clerics have given a call to celebrate Shab-e-Barat by staying at home on April 9. In a video message, shared by Goa Police, President of Association of All Goa Muslim Jamat Sheikh Bashir Ahmad has urged everyone to adhere to the norms laid down by the government to fight COVID-19.

“Doctors, nurses, CRPF and police are working round the clock for our safety. I, on behalf of my association and entire Goa, thank them for their selfless service. I request the community members to not go to the mosques but instead pray from home. Help people, don’t do something to attract attention to yourself… do not believe and/or spread fake news,” he urged in a 3.48-minute-long video.
Ahmad stated that with the entire world and India going through a difficult phase due to the COVID-19, it is important to support the government in fighting the infection.
“The police, health care authorities are working hard…. I appeal to everyone that as good citizens, cooperate with them and support them wholeheartedly. At the same time, protect yourself and the entire nation from the virus,” he further said adding, “The infection is spreading… Indian government has been making efforts to contain the spread of the virus. I request people to adhere to the guidelines by the government, stay at home and maintain safe distance.”
