MORMUGAO: Assuring that the Dabolim airport will not only be retained but will also be developed with the best of facilities, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar asked Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai not to fret about the closure of the airport.
Parrikar was addressing the Janasampark Abhiyan yatra held in front of Mormugao Municipal Council on Tuesday. “The Dabolim airport will not only be retained, but will also be developed with the best facilities than what it is today. The new terminus will be operational by June. Sardessai should not worry about the closure of the airport which the government isn’t intending to do,” stated Parrikar.
“The required land to sort out parking problem has already been acquired. Presently, about 80 flights land at Dabolim airport and with this, the airport has reached a saturation point,” he said. “The need of Mopa airport is to increase the inflow of passengers to 60 lakh, which can get easily diverted to Maharashtra in the absence of this airport,” he said assuring the taxi owners and others that their livelihood won’t be affected.
