The issue was raised during Zero Hour by Congress MLA Pandurang Madkaikar, who pointed out that the village panchayat granted provisional NOCs to the Group, which led to the destruction of the island and harming its ecology. “I will look into the matter,” Parsekar assured.
Madkaikar informed the House that Sai Champions Group has destroyed mangroves and has undertaken land filling by harming the ecology. Madkaikar said that the village gram sabha held on Sunday was attended by over 800 people who strongly objected to the Champions Group’s existence on the Island and wants the government to take action.
