MARGAO: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s appeal to NGOs and others to stop disrupting beef supply Goa has evoked sharp reactions from citizens and politicians, reminding that a Chief Minister is out there not to “appeal”, but to “enforce” the law and act against the law breakers.
UGDP leader Adv Radharao Gracias said the Chief Minister has issued the appeal since many of the NGOs and others involved in the stopping the beef supply to Goa are members of the Sangh Parivar. “It appears the CM does not want to crack a whip against the NGOs since they belong to the Sangh Parivar. But, the Chief Minister should understand that the government has to enforce the law by acting against the law breakers. Why are the law enforcing authorities not arresting the accused involved in disrupting beef supply?” Gracias demanded to know, adding, “when we talk about one country, one nation, people should be allowed to have a diet of their choice”.
While blaming the Goa Meat Complex for the current situation, Gracias said the government should immediately re-commission the meat complex and allow local butchers to get their animals slaughter at Usgao.
Dramapur-Sirlim sarpanch Domnick Norohna said the Chief Minister should get the law implemented instead of issuing appeals and announcements.
“What the people of Goa look out for is the resumption of beef supply in the State. Mere statements will not help unless beef returns to the stalls,” he said.
In a lighter vein, Noronha said the government should come out with a financial package for the caterers and restaurant owners if it cannot ensure uninterrupted supply of beef into the state.
