MARGAO: Work on hot mixing of the Bombay bus stand and the link road leading to the stadium from Margao KTC stand got underway at a cost of Rs 1.60 crore, even as Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said the proposed ultra modern bus stand for Margao will not take shape as long as the BJP government is ruling the State.
“With the government hot mixing the Bombay bus stand with a provision for laying of pavers to lease out the area, I feel that the proposed ultra modern bus stand will not become a reality till 2017. We will have to seriously think of building a modern bus stand after the next election,” Sardesai told the media after laying the foundation stone for the hot mixing work.
He expressed his satisfaction that the PWD has taken up the hot mixing of the link road from the KTC stand towards the stadium side. “But, I am equally sad that the government has no provision for an ultra modern bus stand for Margao. With just two years to go for the next elections scheduled in 2017, I feel that the proposed bus stand will not materialise till then,” he said.
A local resident John Miranda lamented the government has failed to fulfil the long pending demand of the people of Salcete to have a spacious and modern bus stand at Margao. “Bus stands have come up in the major towns across the State, but successive governments have only paid lip service to Margao,” Miranda said.
