Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has asked the Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat to take appropriate action against the malpractices during the traditional burning of Narkasur effigies on Diwali night.
The HJS has submitted a memorandum to the CM as well as the Collectors of North and South Goa district also.
The HJS is peeved with the glorifying of Narkasur instead of Lord Krishna.
Srikrushna plays no role in the celebration which is not correct, they say.
Besides, they have pointed out that on that night several accidents take place due to touching of large effigies of narkasur to the live electric wires on the road, sound pollution due to late night competitions, extortion of money by bringing narkasur effigies on road from vehicle drivers thereby causing accidents.
People cannot enjoy the festival fully due to such problems, they said.
HJS, the memorandum says, along with like minded organisations is trying to create awareness to stop the malpractices occurring during traditional burning of narkasur effigies during Diwali for the last seven years.
HJS is conducing this awareness campaign in a democratic way by forwarding memorandums to the Government, making publicity in this regard, conducting meetings with organising committees of narkasur effigy competition to create awareness among them regarding the ill effects of the malpractices occurring thereof, they said.
