Two huge mobile towers, one at the Panzorconi on National Highway and other at Sanvorcoto on Cuncolim Quepem road, are causing hardships to commuters and creating threat to the commuters.
One private Mobile phone service provider company has erected two towers on the Highway. These towers have not sought any permission from local Council. Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC) has issued a demolishing notice to one tower which is erected at Sanvorcoto just half metre away from the road. Chief Officer Shankar Gaonkar has asked the company to demolish the mobile tower or the Council would take action.
The company has not even replied to council notice. Many locals have made written complaints asking the council to demolish the illegal mobile tower or else they will agitate on this issue. Taking cognisance of the objections the council had already planned to demolish the tower.
Another illegal tower is on the National Highway 17. This tower is just one metre away from the road and causing a risk to commuters. A law states that there should be a proper set back. How can the PWD allow a mobile company to erect a tower breaking all rules and law? locals are asking. CMC has issued a show cause notice to the company regarding the legality of the tower. It is learnt that politicians are supporting the owners. The tower is also erected in an ‘accident prone zone’.
Some locals are holding the council responsible for the mess which is created by mobile companies.
