CANACONA: Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) on Tuesday decided to absorb 62 daily-wage workers into regular service in a phased manner.
The decision was taken in the council meeting chaired by Chairperson Ajay Bhagat after Councillor Simon Rebello proposed it.
Rebello argued in favour of regularising daily and temporary wage workers employed by the council and his proposal was unanimously accepted, with councillors resolving to regularise all the workers in a phased manner.
There are about 62 daily wage workers employed by CMC in various sectors including house cleaning, garbage collections, etc, besides some three regular workers.
With garbage handling and other related works enormously increasing, CMC also decided to purchase a JCB and segregation machine in immediate future.
Councillors also called to fill the long-pending vacant post of head clerk by taking on loan a suitable candidate from other government department.
They also made out a case to stop traffic/law and order hazards created by inter-State private buses by making a halt right on the highway stretch at old bus stand Chaudi.
The council resolved to write to the concerned authorities to stop inter-state buses making halt to collect passengers at the KTC bus stand and instead direct them to collect passengers at the old bus stand.
