COLVALE: In view of Anjuna police mishandling the Siolim minor rape case, Colvale locals have been holding meetings in the village to ensure that the victim’s family gets justice. Colvale youth leader Ritesh Varkhandkar is leading the movement.
According to Varkhandkar, around 100 villagers will attend the anticipatory bail hearing of the accused Hanumant Narvekar on September 8 at 2.30 pm.
“If the anticipatory bail is refused, we will give the police 24 hours to arrest the accused. If they fail to arrest him, then we will sit on a hunger strike at Anjuna police station till the accused is arrested,” said Varkhandkar.
The villagers also informed that two persons – one on a scooter and the other on a motorcycle – had been inquiring about the victim’s family in the village for four days, and they stopped only after the family complained to police.
PSI Kerkar informed that they had interrogated one of the men, who claimed to have been searching for a housemaid. However, villagers rubbished Kerkar’s explanation and demanded a thorough probe into the matter.
“If that person was looking for a maid, then why did they come for four days and why did they make four phone calls? Anjuna police are attempting to cover up the case,” said a villager.
The investigating officer in the case informed that the CCTV footage, which is attached under the panchanama, will be sent for forensic analysis within two days.
