“He (Monserrate) will continue in the party. We are confident that he will correct his mistake,” Dr Chellakumar told the media, but refused to elaborate.
The AICC secretary confirmed that till now no notice has been issued to Monserrate, but said that the party will take some disciplinary action.
Monserrate, during a recent meeting with Dr Chellakumar, in Goa, had openly said that he would work against the Congress candidate Surendra Furtado in the Panjim by-poll to ensure his defeat and instead support the BJP.
Thereafter, Chellakumar had told Herald that severe action, even amounting to expulsion from the party may happen even as he said that it would be better if Monserrate left the party.
Thursday morning, Chellakumar reiterated that Congress would contest the Panjim by-election on its ideology and commitment and it is not dependent on any one individual.
