PANJIM: The Congress party has decided to petition Goa Governor Mridula Sinha seeking disqualification of the BJP Panjim MLA Siddharat Kuncolienkar for allegedly bagging the government contract — HVAC (Air conditioner) consultancy work from Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) for the new Goa State Pollution Control Board building coming up at Saligao.
Addressing a press conference, Congress secretary Durgadas Kamat said that the MLA has bagged the government contract in complete violation of the section 9(A) of the Representation of People’s Act 1951, which debars any MLA from seeking government contracts as it can lead to conflict of interest.
“We will petition the Governor requesting her to disqualify the BJP MLA as prima facie there are evidences, procured under RTI, which authenticate that he bagged government contract for HVAC consultancy work for the new GSPCB building. Such move leads to conflict of interest,” Kamat said.
When contacted for his reaction, Kuncolienkar said, “I don’t want to react to speculative news. I don’t know what Kamat has said in press conference. I have not taken any such contract.”
