MARGAO: While the tourism department is bracing up to implement the Colva coastal circuit tourism project, the polluted Colva creek — an eyesore to visitors and locals alike — finds no mention in the circuit project.
When a local villager sought to draw the attention of the tourism minister to the state of affairs of the contaminated creek, Benaulim legislator Caitu Silva intervened to assure the villager that the creek will be taken up in phase II of the project. Even as an official explained to the tourism minister that the creek will be covered with a wire mesh to prevent waste dumping in the water body, it’s not known how the government can arrest the rampant discharge of sewage water into the creek by the business establishments in the absence of a common sewage treatment plant.It’s not uncommon to find waste and sewage water from the creek flowing into the sea and polluting the beach. The Benauilm legislator, however, assured the government would take up the creek project at the earliest.
