Civic chief, chief officer seek specific complaints

CURCHOREM: Hit by allegations that councillors have been demanding bribes from traders, Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) Chairperson Patricia Fernandes and Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes have requested public to complain against those persons involved in collecting ‘haftas’.
CCMC Vice Chairperson Shrikant Gaonkar and Councillors Rocha Pereira, Pushkal Sawant Dessai, Anita Naik, Anand Prabhudessai, Pradip Naik, Baburao Dessai, Guna Naik and Alifa Fernandes have refuted allegations that ‘bribes’ were being taken from traders from the SUDA market, Curchorem.
“The chairperson must inquire into the allegation and find out who is taking bribes from the traders,” a councillor told media persons.
Chairperson Fernandes has convened an emergency council meeting on August 2 to discuss and decide the issue of allegation levelled against the councillors.
When contacted, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral said the chairperson is not corrupt and requested people to name any person demanding bribes and assured to take action against the guilty.
Meanwhile, in a press note, the chairperson and chief officer stated that a complaint box installed at the entrance of the CCMC building will be kept open every Friday morning.
“The identity of the complainant will be kept confidential. Public can also approach the chief officer to know the progress of the complaint every Tuesday between 4 and 5 pm,” stated the press note.
