CURCHOREM: Curchorem remained shut throughout the day on Thursday, the fifth day since Sunday’s Janta Curfew.

Earlier in the morning, people were seen moving in the market in search of essential commodities particularly flour due to the absence of bakers in the market who sell bread every day. “We have all the required material to prepare breads/grain breads but we stopped it out of fear as authorities may take action against us as people comes to buy it in gatherings.” said a local baker and suggested that they must be allowed to sell the breads by keeping police nearby to regulate the people who comes to buy.
At some places people were seen buying a local vegetable from street vendors who were selling it at a very high price while some people were seen standing in a long queue to buy a milk, which was sold as per MRP.
Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council Chairperson Balkrishna (Pinty) Hodarkar on Thursday morning, informed that they have sent a vendors and volunteers list to the deputy collector for the registration and approval. “We have sent 20 traders/vendors name and for volunteers we suggested 6-7 names for every ward of the municipality and once received approval, we will start distributing essential goods immediately.” said Hodarkar.
Deputy Collector Rohit Kadam on Thursday morning, informed that 30-odd permissions have been granted to stores in Quepem and Curchorem to give home deliveries which will commence from Friday.
Meanwhile local MLA and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral on Thursday morning informed that essential commodities would be sold through Bhagiytdar from Friday.
These statements were made before the State government announced on Thursday night that grocery stores will be allowed to remain open 24/7.
