ACB sources said they are waiting for an approval from State Registrar office for over six months to file a chargesheet against Bhupal Gaonkar, LDC of Sub Registrar Ponda who was arrested while accepting a bribe in 2014. Sources also said that despite several reminders to the office of the State Registrar, there is no response.
In yet another case, ACB is awaiting approval from Goa Police to chargesheet Police Sub Inspector Vilesh Durbhatkar who was booked in 2008 while accepting a bribe at Valpoi Police Station.
ACB sources said the department had sent the letter for approval two months ago but there is no approval yet, despite a reminder from ACB.
“We are ready to chargesheet these two cases and when the question of approvals comes it is always delayed due to this one reason. In some cases it takes months to get the approval,” an ACB officer said.
When contacted Deputy Superintendent of Police (ACB) Bossuet Silva, refused to divulge any information and said the process of getting approvals is on. “I don’t want to comment on the day-to-day functioning of ACB and its investigations,” Silva said.
