PONDA: It appears that some people are taking full advantage of the lockdown by holding late night liquor parties at isolated places in Ponda.
After strictly observing a three-week lockdown, some people have been moving freely in Ponda by violating the norms and making a mockery of the lockdown.
With the doctors and nurses waging a battle against COVID-19, it is learnt that liquor parties are organised late at night by some people to beat the boredom of lockdown.
Many locals fear that if liquor parties by drunkards are not stopped, it may facilitate the spread of the virus. Therefore, people feel that police must seal the bars temporarily till the lockdown is lifted.
For three weeks, the police strictly enforced the lockdown throughout Ponda taluka. But now they seem relaxed. Taking advantage of the ‘go soft’ attitude of the police, many people are roaming freely in the Ponda town and villages, as if life has come to normal.
While doctors, nurses and police are fighting the virus, most people don’t think it’s also their fight.
Though the bars are totally shut down, many drunkards still manage to find liquor. The modus operandi is that the liquor is purchased from bar owners, taken to isolated place and consumed in the company of friends.
