PANJIM: Exactly a month after the shocking incident of a body of a 24-year-old going missing from the GMC morgue, the State government terminated the extension of service granted to Dr Edmundo Rodrigues, Professor and Head, Department of Forensic Medicine, Goa Medical College, Bambolim. The order was signed by under secretary Personnel –II Shashank Thakur.
On September 29, Rodrigues was suspended for what was seen as criminal negligence. The case is currently being investigated by Crime Branch.
In a shocking error, GMC had disposed the body of Januz Gonsalves from Aldona in place of an unclaimed body. Instead of handing over the unclaimed body of Vishant Naik, 45, the hospital officials handed over the body of Gonsalves, 24, to the CCP for disposal.
Gonsalves, an avid footballer had collapsed and died on the field while playing the sport after which the police insisted for an autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death.
