PANJIM: Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has increased its vigilance along the borders for vehicles transporting fish into the State by indentifying additional check points, where police and transport officials will be deployed.
Since Saturday midnight, vehicles laden with fish entering the State are being stopped at the check post to check whether they have a registered transporters licence obtained from FDA. Vehicles that do not have the mandatory documents are being sent back.
Patradevi and Polem were the two check posts which were under vigil. However, the government has now identified additional entry points like Mollem, Naibag, Kiranpani, Querim, where police and transport officials will be deployed from midnight to check the vehicles entering the State with fish.
“Police personnel posted at all the check posts shall stamp the challans/invoices/documents pertaining to the consignments carried by the vehicles to indicate that they have entered the State of Goa only after police verification,” Under Secretary Health Maria Seomara De Souza said in the corrigendum issued.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had warned that fish carrying vehicles will face a permanent ban from entering Goa if they do not comply with the directions. FDA has already revoked registration certificates granted to 33 fish business operators from Margao wholesale marker, under Food Safety and Standards Act, for failing to get municipality trade licence.
