PANJIM: The Maharashtra-based company that was ordered to stop dredging work at the mouth of Tiracol River late Tuesday evening has been asked to approach the State government for permissions.
“The area is on the Goa-Maharashtra border and a portion of it falls in Goa jurisdiction. Since the company started the work without informing and seeking permission from the authorities in the State, we have now asked them to write to us,” an official from the Secretariat told Herald.
The company that wants to construct a jetty at Aronda has been instructed to approach Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority, Goa State Pollution Control Board, local panchayat and Ports Administration for approvals.
The residents of Keri, Pernem had protested the dredging of the river prompting the local authorities to suspend the work. Former education minister Sangeeta Parab and youth leader and social worker Sachin Parab were amongst the locals objecting to the work.
Captain of Ports James Braganza visited the site on Wednesday and said there was no tension and work was stopped pending approvals from the State.
