PANJIM: Even as vegetables reached the local markets Thursday, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said the government is firm about continuing the entry tax on outstation vehicles and said that supplies of essential commodities to Goa remained unaffected.
“The strike has not affected (us). All supplies are running normally…We will not roll back the tax,” he told reporters before the sitting of assembly session began on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar said a monthly pass system will soon be introduced for non-Goan vehicles carrying essential commodities.
“The trucks carrying milk, eggs and groceries arrived during the wee hours into the State as scheduled,” he said.
The government has exempted from taxation for 15 days vehicles registered in Belgaum, Karwar and Sindhudurg districts.
Dhavalikar said the traders cannot stop the supplies as various agreements have been worked out by traders with establishments such as hotels on a long- term basis in Goa.
