Examining slashing VAT on fuel: CM

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has said that he has only asked the VAT Commissioner to examine the question of the government reducing VAT on petroleum products in the wake of a hike in prices.
During an informal chat with newsmen, Kamat reminded that the Centre has decontrolled the petroleum prices, a situation which may lead to the upward and downward movement of the prices. In fact, he said due to decontrol in the petroleum prices, the prices may even come down after 15 days. “I had only said that I am examining the question whetherwe can reduce VAT on fuel. The VAT Commissioner will submit all details on the matter soon,” he added.
On the controversy over the highway expansion, the Chief Minister said that National Highways should avoid crowded areas or for go reduction in the width wherever required. “After a delegation from Corlim came to me, I have told the Principal Chief Engineer to give me a alignment of the stretch in Bhoma, Corlim and Ponda side”, he said, while saying that the government is of the firm opinion that minimum houses should go during the expansion project.
