MARGAO: Devotees in thousands from across the State, thronged the historic Our Lady of Merces Church, Colva for the grand ‘Fama’ to seek the blessings of Menino (Infant Jesus) on Monday.
The high mass was celebrated at 5.30 am after which, the miraculous statue of Infant Jesus was brought of the crypt, onto the altar, and carried in a solemn procession around the church, before it was kept for public veneration. This included the blessing of the banner and kissing of the Statue.
Parish Priest, Fr.Simpliciano N Fernandes who was the main celebration, in his homily, spoke about what Infant Jesus means to everyone, especially to the poor and needy and how Menino Jesus is the source of God’s immense blessings.
Meanwhile, the traffic flow arrangements was smooth and under the supervision of Colva Police. Colva Sarpanch, Anthony Fernandes, parishioners and members of the coordination committee ensured all the activities went according to plan.
Celebrated with pomp and gaiety, many of the faithful attended the fama to pray and thank God for its miraculous powers as well to make various types of offerings.
