The deceased died while on the way to the Primary Health Centre, Balli.
Addressing the media, Margao DySP Mohan Naik, who visited the scene of offence, said that the accused used three knifes to stab his wife who suffered grievous injuries on abdomen and died. While all three knifes used by the accused to commit the murder were found on the spot with blade of one knife broken; the accused is said to have run away from the scene of offence after changing his blood stained clothes on a Pleasure scooter towards Canaguinim-Cabo de Rama.
Cuncolim PSI Tukaram Chawan who arrived on the spot tried to chase the accused but the accused is said to have made good his escape and disappeared. DySP Naik informed that there were constant fights between the couple; Jiya, who hails from Shirvodem-Navelim, had filed a number of complaints against husband who had been working abroad in Kuwait and had returned Goa a year ago.
A week ago, the victim is said to have lodged a complaint against her husband at Margao police station. The accused on Friday morning dropped his five-year-old daughter and three-year-old son to school at Bali on his scooter and later came home. The accused is said to have been in the habit of drinking from early hours of the day and fighting with the victim.
Neighbours are said to have heard cries for help from Jiya and five ladies rushed to victim’s house but found the couple inside with doors locked.
While efforts to persuade the accused to open the door failed, the neighbours told the DySP that the victim showed them her blood oozing hands through the window before collapsing on the ground. The accused is said to have changed his clothes and made good his escape on a scooter before the Cuncolim police, who were informed by neighbours, could arrive at the spot.
Efforts to trace the accused are on by Cuncolim police who have registered offence under Section 302 of IPC for murder against accused husband. Further investigation is being conducted by PI Ram Asare.
