PONDA: Although the panchayat elections fever has gripped the Ponda Taluka, some of the candidates, who are in run up to file nomination papers are facing problems due to obtaining of OBC certificate, opening of bank account in nationalised bank thereby delaying the process.
From the 19 village panchayats in Ponda Taluka, in the first four days, there were 22 nominations filed but on Thursday the number increased to 144.

There are three Returning Officers for receiving nominations from the candidates of various village panchayats.
According to some aspiring former panchas, the delay for filing nominations may be encountered for the first time as there is a condition that the candidate should have an account in the nationalised bank. Some candidates, though have accounts in the co-operative societies and local banks, do not have an account with the nationalised bank as it is mandatory.
Further, in case of OBC reservation, it was declared at the last moment and many candidates, who are not in possession of caste certificate are completing the procedure to obtain the certificate. The candidate, first has to obtain the caste certificate from their respective community association and then based on that the Deputy Collector issues OBC certificate, the panchas added.
