First council meeting of newly-elected CCMC fails

CURCHOREM: Due to lack of quorum, the first special meeting of newly elected councillors of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) under the chairmanship of Balkrishna (Pinty) Uttam Sinai Hodarkar was cancelled on Wednesday.

The meeting which was summoned at 11 am was rescheduled at 3.30 pm due as only six out of fifteen councillors were present in the morning. But even in the afternoon councillors Pradip Kushali  Naik (Pontemoll), Sushant Rohidas Naik (Madhegal), Yolanda Pereira (Vodlemoll), Clementina Fernandes (Morailem), Mangaldas Arjun Ghadi (Ghadiwada-Kakoda and Aparna Vithoba Prabhu Dessai (Sasnamodd) including Chairperson  Balkrishna (Pinty) Uttam Sinai Hodarkar(Bebquegal) were only present for the meeting.

Speaking to the media person, Hodarkar informed as per the rule the special meeting was supposed to be convened within a seven days of taking charge as a chairperson. “I have called the meeting to elect all types of council committees so that they can started functioning at the earliest as the monsoon will be approaching soon and therefore we have to discuss and decide about the work to be undertaken on priority basis but even after receiving notice few councillors failed to turn up and I have to cancelled the meeting due to lack of quorum.” said Hodarkar.

When contacted the councillors who have not attended the meeting, the vice-chairperson Rhucha Subhash Vasta and Damodar Narcinva Bhende said that could not attend the meeting due to their other urgent work. While Vishwas Pandu Sawant, Tony Coutinho and Carmelina Morais said that their panel had decided not to attend the meeting. Reema Alise, Jasmine Braganza and Pramod Damu Naik could not be contacted even after several attempts.

Priority of the meeting was to decide certain public work and forming the committees and not to display support, so Hodarkar expected everyone in the meeting. “Some councillors may be haveing personal differences with me but they should have attended by keeping it at the side in the interest of the general public. People are watching it and know what is happening in Curchorem-Cacora municipality.” said Hodarkar.
