PANJIM: South Goa Collector Jyoti Kumari, who drew flak from political parties for issuing a circular for fund collection from the Collectorate staff for an event on Republic Day, was transferred on Friday.

The State government has appointed IAS officer Asvin Chandru as the South Goa Collector, while Jyoti Kumari has now been posted as Chief Executive Officer of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG).
Jyoti Kumari had stoked controversy after she issued a circular asking permanent staff of the South Goa Collectorate, Margao, to contribute Rs 1,000 for a charity programme to be held as part of Republic Day. She was also criticised for holding a district-level meeting under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY), without inviting the local MP, MLA and village panchayat members.
Kumari went ahead and organised the charity event anyhow, bringing joy to the faces of elderly people and children from Child Care Centres, on Thursday.
Several elderly people from seven old-age homes and children from six child care centres participated in the event where tiatr artistes such as John D’Silva and others entertained them. Addressing the gathering at the function, the Collector clarified that this event was a contributory effort of the staff from the Collectorate office and said that all those who contributed, did so willingly.
