vasco: After a gap of a couple of days, the Urban Health Centre, Vasco reopened on Friday after due checks were completed and is functioning again to some extent with the newly-deputed staff.

Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Arvind Bugde said the Centre was reopened as the public needed access to the health facilities and other immunizations processes.
The Centre was closed after a few members of its earlier staff had tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Centre was also in the news as health staff from this Centre was living in various parts of Goa. Since then the government has made arrangements for health and police staff on COVID-19 duty to stay at facilities, thereby avoiding the need for them to return back home.
It may be recalled that after the Health Centre was shut, MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut had raised concerns over its closure and had said that people of the locality should not be deprived of the facilities especially during the rainy season when there are chances of vector-borne diseases spreading. Last year, some people had lost their lives to Dengue too, he had pointed out. He had requested the Health Minister to reopen the Centre at the earliest.
