the party on Monday categorically stated that “BJP is the only political enemy and there won’t be any compromise on that”.
Addressing media persons, AICC secretary Girish Chodankar said the party considers BJP as its national enemy. “BJP will always be our first enemy,” he said, adding that that party sees no threat from any regional outfit, including the newly-launched Goa Forward.
The statement came hours after like-minded people in the State launched a new regional political alternative, backed by three Independent MLAs – Vijai Sardesai, Rohan Khaunte and Naresh Sawal.
“Since liberation, many regional parties have come and gone. They came forward and then went backward. Congress doesn’t get affected by such minor things,” Chodankar said.
The AICC leader claimed that with Assembly elections approaching, this is a season for new political formations. “This is a season for new formations, this is a season when many people will talk about saving Goa, saving people, saving its identity…,” he said, adding that in the past parties like Save Goa and Goa Vikas Party (GVP) had made no difference to the Congress.
The claim came despite Congress candidates losing to GVP in two Assembly constituencies in the 2012 elections in Nuvem and Benaulim.
Asked whether the party will seek an alliance with Goa Forward, Chodankar said the party must first get registered and have a proper formation.
