Former Sattari MLA Jaisingrao V Rane (87), resident of Dhave-Sattari, passed away at GMC Hospital in Bambolim on Monday evening.
He was elected MLA of Sattari constituency in 1963 on Praja-Samajwadi party ticket. Rane, who was a freedom fighter, took the initiative to solve the Kumeri cultivators problem in Sattari.
Rane was felicitated by the then President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam for his contribution to the freedom struggle of Goa. He had also written few books on Kumeri cultivation in Sattari.
