PANJIM: After committing the heinous gang-rape at Cansaulim, the five brutes dumped the mentally challenged victim on the Nuvem highway at 3.30 am, leaving her to fend for herself by roadside.

Revealing further details, the police on Saturday stated that the mentally and physically tortured girl made desperate attempts to stop motorists in the wee hours, pleading for help. However nobody paid heed to her frantic cries. However, it was only after a Good Samaritan responded to her pleas for help, and stopped by. The girl then narrated her horrific ordeal she underwent at the hands of the five rapists.
“Seeing her in a dazed state, the passerby immediately contacted the police control room and patiently stood along with the victim and comforted her till the police reached the site,” South Goa SP Sunita Sawant said.
Given the fact that only a police complaint was registered the police teams swung into action and sought location details from the mobile towers. Even the expertise of the Finger Print Bureau and the Forensic Team was sought. With immediate corroborative evidence, the police teams swooped down on the accused rapists and nabbed them.
The police even managed to trace the guest house where the heinous crime took place besides attaching the vehicle used in committing the offence and 5 mobile phones as corroborative evidence into the matter.
The police revealed that the main accused identified as Adil Algur, (18), from Chicalim, was the first to allegedly rape the victim followed by his four other accomplices Mohammed Mulla (22) from Mangor Hill-Vasco, Shahzad Shaikh (18) from Khariwaddo, Vasco, Viresh Aguanda, (18) from Vasco and Mohammed Yasir Shaikh (18) from Bogda Vasco joining in to further torture the victim.
The police said that Mulla’s vehicle was used in the commission of the crime. Viresh and Mohammed Yasir were sent the location details of the guesthouse via WhatsApp.
It has come to light that the guesthouse where the horrific crime had occurred had not registered any details of the accused.
The guest house did not take their identities at the reception counter. The police also revealed that Mohammed Mulla would often visit the guesthouse with various women and the details were never registered on the log book on the reception counter.
The police state that normally the staffers at guesthouses do not maintain register as they get more money when it comes to such illegal activities
The police have now written to the tourism department to cancel the trade licence of the guesthouse in Cansaulim which was allegedly used to rape the girl. Moreover, the police have directed the transport department to cancel the rent-a-cab licence of the vehicle used in ferrying the victim to the guest house. Police sources say that the role of the staff of the guesthouse is being ascertained to find out as to how they had let out the room to the accused by not maintaining any record.
It may be recalled that in a horrific act, the victim was brutally gangraped by five accused in a guesthouse at Cansaulim on intervening night of January 22-23.
The victim narrated the horrific incident to her mother who later filed a police complaint with the Fatorda Police, who registered an offence under Sections 138, 70(1) and Section 64(1) (k)(m) of BNS Act 2023.
All the accused were remanded in seven days police custody.
