BICHOLIM: Inspector General of Police Sunil Garg will visit Sanquelim police outpost on Wednesday in view of the fact that a new police station has been proposed for the town.
According to Sanquelim MLA Dr Pramod Sawant the police station at Sanquelim has been proposed to keep check on crimes in the area. “The IGP would visit the outpost at Sanquelim to see the condition of the building and other requirements needed for the police station,” Dr Sawant said.
As per police sources the police force at Bicholim police station is not sufficient to control the entire taluka which has three constituencies – Bicholim, Mayem and Sanquelim.
At present the sanctioned strength at Bicholim police station is: PI (one); PSI (3); AIS (5); HC (20); LHC (1) PC (83); LPC (4).
“This strength was proposed in 1971 and has not changed since then,” police sources said. “From the available staff about 20 police are deployed with the court, opposition leader, deputy speaker and at fire range at Maulinguem. There are in all three out-posts at Bhamai-Pali, Dodamarg and Sanquelim and with such few staff it is very difficult to manage the entire area,” sources said.
