MARGAO: Green Goa Foundation on Friday lodged a police complaint against the Director of Health Services and the Director of Food and Drugs Administration over continuing food poisoning cases in schools.
The complaint was lodged with the South district police chief Shekhar Prabhudessai by Foundation Chairman Raison Almeida.
Almeida later told the media persons that he has been watching with alarm the continuing reports of food poisoning suffered by school students.
He demanded registration of offense against the Health Director and the FDA Director for negligence and failure to act in accordance with law to protect the health of the students. “In the recent past, students of a school in Balli, Quepem, had suffered such food poisoning. Despite repeated incidents, there is recurrence of food poisoning every few months,” he said.
He said that these incidents recur due to the failure on the part of the Health Director and the FDA Director to take preventive measures and to enforce hygiene amongst the various associations involved in preparing the food.
“There is complete culpability on the part of these officials, resulting in students suffering from consequences of food poisoning. Both the Health and FDA Directors are acting like “caged parrots” to paraphrase the words of the Supreme Court attributed to the CBI,” he asserted.
