Giriraj Pai Vernekar Dismisses GFP’s ‘Moral Victory’ Claim After Poor ZP Poll Performance

BJP spokesperson Giriraj Pai Vernekar has strongly criticised Goa Forward Party (GFP) president Vijai Sardesai for claiming a “moral victory” in the recently concluded Zilla Parishad elections, despite the party securing just one seat out of 50.

Reacting to Sardesai’s remarks, Vernekar said that portraying such a result as a moral win reflected denial rather than political courage. He alleged that a significant portion of the votes polled by the GFP-backed candidate came due to support from its Congress alliance, rather than the party’s independent strength.

Vernekar further stated that the final seat tally clearly exposed the political reality on the ground. “The numbers speak for themselves,” he said, adding that while Goa has moved forward, the Goa Forward Party appears to be stuck in the past.

The BJP spokesperson’s comments come amid heightened political sparring following the Zilla Parishad results, with parties interpreting the outcome to reinforce their respective narratives.
