Goa bypolls: Congress wins one seat, BJP wins 2 and leads in one

PANJIM: In the four State Assembly by-polls, BJP won two namely, Mapusa and Shiroda, and leading in Mandrem while Congress has won in Panjim constituency.

Since the counting starts at around 8 am Congress’s Atanasio Monserrate, who is more familiar as ‘Babush’ was leading over BJP’s Sidharth Kunkolienkar in the Panaji assembly bypoll with varying numbers before he swept the victory by 1775 votes.
“The result clearly shows that negativity never wins. There were comments that Panjim will not be safe for women… The result shows Panjim is safe and Taleigao has been safe for women for last 17 years,” said Monserrate, soon after he was declared a winner in Panjim.
Monserrate has a clear mandate: “Wait and watch, I will take the offshore casinos out of River Mandovi,” he says. 
In the Mapusa assembly bypoll, Joshua D’Souza was contesting on a BJP ticket, where a bypoll was held following the death of his father BJP MLA Francis D’Souza and wins against his arch-rival Congress’s Sudhir Kandolkar with over 1000 votes. Joshua gets 11, 167 votes where Sudhir Kandolkar ended up with 10,016 votes.

While in the Mandrem assembly bypoll, BJP candidate Dayanand Sopte, who was leading over his Independent candidate Jeet Aerrolka, claims victorious ahead of an official declaration. 
 “Pro-incumbency wave being seen for the @BJP4India and our hon’ble PM @narendramodi. People have bestowed immense trust in our PM from all corners of the nation. They have defeated the negative elements who tried to spread communal hatred and hurt the #democracy of our country” tweets cabinet minister Vishwajit Rane.
