VASCO: This may turn out to be a statewide racket in which unemployed youths are being lured with appointment letters of state Government jobs in order to dupe them.
Alka Anand Satardekar (26), alias Alka Kamurlekar (name after marriage) from Bogda in Mormugao, who is also complainant in the case, on Saturday, received an appointment letter duly signed and stamped by the authority of the Goa Forest Department. The appointment letter states that Alka has been selected as a forest guard in the Goa Forest Department and within 24 hours of receiving appointment letter she has to deposit Rs 15,250 (as security deposits) so as to secure the job in the Goa Forest department till the year 2035.
“I was surprised to receive the appointment letter as I had never applied for any post in the Goa Forest Department. But what made me more surprised was when I noticed the appointment letter was issued in my maiden name and not in the name after marriage. In the letter I was asked to deposit Rs 15,250 as security deposit and that too in the bank account that would be provided by the person whose cell number has been mentioned on the front page of the appointment letter and the money has to be deposited using online transfer mode,” she said.
She went on to say “Also the letter was delivered at the postal address of my parents and not at my in-laws residence at Bodga. I felt something fishy and therefore consulted my husband, who then consulted his friends and found the appointment letter was fake and was issued with the intention to dupe me.”
MMC Councillors Nilesh Navelkar, said “The complainant’s husband approached me and I used my contacts to find out the truth. As suspected it was confirmed to me by the police as well as by the people in the Forest Department that the appointment letter was a fake and was not issued by the any department under Goa Government.
Meanwhile the complaint’s husband approached the police who also confirmed the letter which has the stamp of the Goa Forest department and looks like an original, is fake. However the police advised the couple not to register any complaint but to create awareness about the circulation of fake appointment letter through the media. Sources in the Forest Department also confirmed that many people in Goa have received similar fake appointment letters and asked the members of public to remain vigilant and not to fall prey in such scams.
