MARGAO: The Chairperson of Margao Municipality Gonzaco Rebello has levelled various accusations against the NGOs and petitioner Savio Dias in the illegal structure case attributed to Gonzaco. He has accused Dias and his brother of extortion, forgery and also troubling families from Madel.
Gonzaco has now claimed that since 1969 the deemed illegal structure stands in the name of his father and they have also paid tax for it. Gonzaco has also alleged that NGOs take money from many real estate developers of Margao. The chairperson has dared the NGOs to prove that he is corrupt and that he will resign and won’t contest elections any further. He has also accused councillor Raju Naik and Arthur D’Silva of plotting to pull him down.
Gonzaco says that he is ready to face a no-confidence-motion if one in brought against him. He has made a frontal attack on councillor Raju Naik and Arthur D’Silva of playing the games in the MMC.
Gonzaco has been involved in a battle with Savio Dias and Chief Officer of MMC over the issue of his illegally constructed restaurant in Mungul, Colva, against which a demolition order has been passed. Gonzaco has now become vocal and has attacked Savio Dias and his brother of having taken extortion money to the tune of lakhs of rupees from a real estate developer in Madel. The Chairperson of MMC has also accused Savio of forgery and troubling families in Madel.
While taking a dig at Adv Rajiv Gomes, Gonzaco claims that Rajiv had previously promised to fight his case to save his illegal structure. He further said, “Could Rajiv Gomes make my structure legal if I had hired him to fight my case?”
Gonzaco has vowed that he won’t beg for, nor withdraw from the post of chairperson and will face the no confidence motion, if and when it comes.
