PANJIM: The State government has notified a scheme for taxi operators giving them 50 percent reimbursement on the annual insurance premium paid.
The notification said the taxi should be fitted with digital type fare meter with printer and Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking device approved by the state transport authority.
Taxi operators can take benefit of the scheme for a maximum of two taxis and the taxi should not be registered on a company name.
The notification states that the first taxi be able to get a benefit of 50 percent or Rs 10,000 whichever is less, and the second vehicle will get 25 percent or Rs 5000 whichever is less.
Operators won’t get the benefits of this scheme for more than two taxis per owner.
The scheme, which will be called as Goa State Public Transport (Taxi Owners) Insurance Contribution Scheme, 2017, makes it mandatory that the taxi owner should be a resident of Goa for a minimum of 15 years.
The government has, however, retained the power to relax conditions of the scheme in deserving genuine cases with reasons to be recorded in writing.
