PORVORIM: In an effort to provide relief to electricity consumers from coastal belts of BardezTaluka, who are suffering from frequent power fluctuations and low voltage, the State government has proposed to install 63 MW power transformer at the Tivim sub-station.

Power Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar said that an additional 10MW of power would be transformed to Tivim sub-station from Bicholim sub-station.
“This immediate measure will help in reducing the power crisis in the coastal areas,” Dhavalikar said.
“However, even after this move there might be some issues,” he said, adding that a fresh tender will be floated for taking up 220KV/ 33KV sub-station at Saligao for catering to the increasing load growth in the coastal belt area.
The minister was responding to the two different questions raised by Congress Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and Saligao MLA Kedar Naik. The legislators brought to the notice of the House the frequent power cuts, fluctuations and low voltage, resulting into blackouts in the coastal areas.
Lobo said that the tender for sub-station at Saligao was issued and all of sudden the Cabinet took decision to cancel the tendering process.
