PANJIM: Considering that nearly 50 percent of the liquor shops are located along the State and National highways, the Goa government has decided to seek legal opinion on the Supreme Court order banning such bars by March 31, next year.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said, “I would not like to comment on anything now. We have to abide by the SC order but before that I will seek the opinion of the AG.”
Parsekar said that nearly 50 percent of bars are located along the highways. Last week he had expressed the possibility of relocating these bars, but not all.
The apex court has set April 1 as the deadline to ensure all liquor shops along highways are shut, and that licenses of liquor shops on highways be not renewed after April 1, 2017.
