MARGAO: Reiterating that municipal bodies have been found lax in recovery of tax arrears, Urban Development Minister Francis D’Souza on Tuesday said that he is seriously contemplating a proposal to link development grants to the civic bodies to their performance. Speaking to the media at the South Goa District Collectorate on the sidelines of the concluding function of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Tuesday, D’Souza said the civic bodies will not receive development grants if they do not perform well, especially in terms of revenue recoveries.
“The municipal bodies should put a collection system in place. Otherwise, the government will link development grants to the civic body to their recovery performance”, he said.
