Grounded Vessel Threatens Fishing Route in Cavelossim; Sarpanch Warns of Maritime Disaster

The vessel’s grounding is expected to significantly disrupt the movement of fishing vessels, as this channel is a crucial route for boats heading out to sea. If the vessel remains stuck or sinks, it could block the navigation channel entirely, resulting in a major setback for the region’s fishing industry, which depends on timely and safe access to the sea for its livelihood.

Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz has taken up the issue with the Additional Collector, highlighting the vessel’s precarious tilt and warning of the potential disaster if it sinks. He has emphasized that such an incident would have a “major impact on fishing” in the area. Vaz also submitted a memorandum addressing another environmental concern: the proliferation of water hyacinth on Cavelossim beach, which can further hinder fishing activities and damage the local ecosystem.
