PANJIM: The Goa Seamen Association of India (GSAI) while lamenting that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has not yet started the Goa Welfare Pension Scheme for seafarers which arbitrarily stopped on October 20, 2020.
In a press note, the Association President Frank Viegas has appealed to the Chief Minister to start it at least on June 25, which is the Seafarers Day as many seamen particularly the retired ones are dependent on it for their survival.
He said cancellation of the scheme has put seamen specially the retired ones to great hardship and pointed out that it is becoming very difficult for retired seamen to move about during the pandemic.
