GSAI has warned that if the NUSI hospital is not restarted, it would close down the Maritime Academy.
The seamen association will also protest for issues of seafarers including ex-gratia, and monthly deduction of cruise liners by NUSI. The GSAI president has urged the seamen of Goa to assemble at the NUSI Wokhardt hospital for the protest.
Expressing anguish over the closure of NUSI Workhardt Hospital, GSAI President Dixon Vaz said, “The NUSI properties have been given by Goan Comununidade for the betterment of the seamen and they now can’t shut down the hospital.”
Dixon said that NUSI has been earning from seafarers through duties and other charges and still expects profits from the hospital. “This is bizarre and we expect that the NUSI hospital is taken over by Goan doctors and continue serving the society,” demanded Dixon.
